About this time of the year, real estate pundits and seers start to predict next year's market. The most often prediction is that the market will drop: with a thud, a spiral, or a soft landing. In fact, they say, it's already happening. Look around and there are numerous price reductions and homes not selling.
But late Fall is usually when we see a slow down every year. Exhausted buyers are ready to take a break; sellers want to celebrate one last Thanksgiving before selling. Less inventory. Less buyers. I wouldn't base the market trend on the Fall season. It's just too early to tell. With boots on the ground, I can only say that if the house is in good condition, looks gorgeous and is in a good location, it will sell. Even in late Fall.

how to Create a Serene Home

Here, Elle Decor speaks with interior designers about how they create serene homes that counter the chaos of everyday life.

Moving with Your Heart
My friend and client, Julia, worked tirelessly clearing out her family home of 40 years before putting it on the market. She boxed, sold and donated every possible item, not wanting to waste anything, even driving up to Santa Rosa to donate books to the local library that was damaged in the fire.
If you're thinking of selling, start by purging, and consider donating any unwanted items. (Do you really fit into that size 2 dress anymore?) Here are some places where to donate before moving:
